Dementia is a collective name for progressive degenerative brain syndromes which affect memory, thinking, behaviour and emotion. Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, 中国体育彩票app下载 College of Nursing, MAHE, 中国体育彩票app下载 observed Alzheimer’s week from 17th to 20th September 2024 to sensitize the public regarding the early symptoms, prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. On the 17th Tuesday, an awareness program on Alzheimer’s Dementia, in collaboration with the Rotary Club and Senior Citizen’s Club, Brahmavar, was organized for their members. Dr Savitha Prabhu, Assistant Professor, conducted the awareness session on the importance of early detection, prevention and care of people suffering from Dementia. To sensitize the high-risk group, 5th semester BSc Nursing students enacted a role-play on Alzheimer’s disease, which was well appreciated by the group. The program concluded with an interactive session where the group could clarify their doubts about caring for persons with dementia. The Presidents and the members of the Rotary and Senior Citizen Clubs, Brahmavar, Mr. Renjulal Yesodharan, Assistant Professor, and 5th semester BSc. Mr. Bhaskar Shetty, President of Senior Citizens, Brahmavar welcomed the gatherings, Mr. Udaya Poojary, Secretary of Rotary Club Brahmavar, delivered a vote of thanks and Mr. Sridhar Shetty, President, of Rotary Club Brahmavar, compered the program.

A radio program by Dr. Savitha Prabhu on raising awareness among the public and support for those dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias was recorded on 18th September in Mangalore Akashavani and will be aired on 20th September at 8.30 pm and a role play by the students of the 5th semester on Alzheimer’s Dementia will be aired on 20th September at 5 pm on?NewsOnAir, Akashavani, Mangalore.?The program is aligned with SDG 3 good health and wellbeing and SDG 4 quality education.
